Advent and Christmas Schedule

Throughout the Season of Advent, there will be an 8:00 Mass celebrated every Saturday.  In preparation for the celebration of the Birth of Jesus Christ, plan on starting your Saturdays by sharing in the Eucharistic Celebration.

Friday, December 8, is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, a Holy Day of Obligation for all Catholics.  This is also the day we celebrate Mary as the Patroness of the United States of America.

Masses on December 8 will be celebrated at:

  • 6:15 AM
  • 8:00 AM
  • 12:00 Noon
  • 7:00 PM

All day confessions will be celebrated on Saturday, December 16, from 9:00 AM until 4:45 PM.

This year, Christmas falls on Monday, December 25.  The schedule of Masses for the Feast of the Nativity of the Lord are:

Sunday, December 24 - Vigil Mass - 4:00 PM
Sunday, December 24 - Mass at Night - 10:00 PM
Monday, December 25 - Mass at Dawn - 8:00 AM
Monday, December 25 - Mass during the Day - 10:00 AM

St. Vincent de Paul Youth Bake Sale

On December 2-3, the youth chapter of the Parish Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul will hold its annual bake sale to fund the group's participation in the Parish Advent Giving Tree.  The group has already adopted three teens from Northwest High School who are supported by the Homeless Youth Initiative.  Depending on what they can raise, they will add those in need who are included in the Parish Giving Tree program.

The SVDP Youth will be shopping on Saturday morning, December 9 and that evening, after attending the 5:00 PM Mass together, will have their Christmas dinner together and then wrap all their purchases.

This annual event allows our SVDP Youth not only to live the mission of the society to provide assistance to the poor and vulnerable, but allows them to be a part of the parish life and Our Lady Queen of Peace's outreach to those in need in our immediate area.  Please be generous in supporting the efforts of these young people!

December Blood Drive

On Thursday, December 7, the Red Cross will be at Our Lady Queen of Peace from 2:00 until 7:00 PM in the cafeteria for our annual, December Blood Drive In Advent, we wait with hope for the life and light that the coming of Christ offers to the world. What better way to enter into this season of hope than to offer the gift of life to others in our world by donating blood!

Giving Tree / Pennies for the Poor

Beginning with the first weekend of Advent, December 2-3, the Advent Giving Tree and Pennies for the Poor Collection bottle will be on display in the gathering area.  These are two traditions of our parish in which we reach out to the poor and vulnerable during the holiday season.

Parishioners are invited to take an ornament from the giving tree.  The ornament will list the gender and age a person and the gift needed for that person.  Parishioners are asked to buy and wrap the present and place it back under the tree - with the ornament attached for purposes of identification - by Saturday, December 16.

Likewise parishioners are invited to add any loose change left over from Christmas purchases, or to make any free will donation, in the Pennies for the Poor bottle.  All funds collected will be given to our local conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul to assist families in need in our immediate area.

Those We Remembered

During the month of November, the church remembers and prays for those who have died over the past year and commends them to the Lord.  In conjunction with the Feast of All Souls, the Ministry of Consolation held a service of remembrance in which a rose and a candle were presented to the families of those who had suffered the loss of a loved one in the last year.
