Is Slavery Dead?
Human Trafficking in Our Own Backyard

On Thursday, February 22, at 7:00 PM in the cafeteria, Jason Seward from Healing Action St. Louis will make a presentation on the reality of Human Trafficking in our world, its prevalence in the St. Louis Metropolitan area, and ways that we, as people of faith can contribute to ending this pernicious form of modern-day slavery.

Maryann Schuld will also share with us the work of the organization to which she belongs that supports the efforts to help victims of human trafficking transition into a new life of freedom.

This presentation is sponsored by the Catholic Social Response Committee of Our Lady Queen of Peace and co-sponsored by the Peace and Justice Commission of the Archdiocese of St. Louis and Healing Action of St. Louis.

The presentation will include the opportunity to asks questions and speak with both Jason and Maryann.  Light refreshments will be served.

How to Evangelize

On Saturday, February 24, the Adult Faith Formation Committee is hosting a presentation on How to Evangelize.  The presentation features a talk by Don Morris, a seminarian from our parish, as well as a film and discussion session.  The presentation will begin immediately after the 8:00 AM Mass and will conclude at 11:30 AM.

In this year dedicated to Evangelization, please plan to attend to see how we, as a parish, can spread the Good News and invite others to know Jesus Christ.

Things to Do This Lent

Lenten Regulations on Fast and Abstinence

Forty Cans for Lent

The Knights of Columbus will again be collecting non-perishable food items for the local food pantries. This starts Ash Wednesday, February 14, and will end on Palm Sunday, March 25. You will find the “40 Cans for Lent” blue barrel in the Church lobby. Thank you in advance for your participation.

Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl

Each Lent, Catholic Relief Services sponsors a "Rice Bowl" collection to support the many efforts of CRS to serve the poor and vulnerable and promote human rights and human dignity throughout the world.  We, at Our Lady Queen of Peace, join over 14,000 parish communities in participating in this program.  Please join your fellow parishioners and so many other Catholics in taking a Rice Bown from the back of Church and filling a it with loose change and money saved through your personal Lenten Practices.

Lenten Fish Fries

The Lenten Fish Fries will be held on all Fridays during Lent from February 16 through March 23.  As always, the Fish Fries offer all parishioners an opportunity to practice Lenten abstinence in a way that builds parish community and serves as one of the major fundraising efforts of our parish.  Please plan to share a meals with family and friends and to support the effort by volunteering some of your time.

The "R" and "R" Fund
(Repair and Replacement)

The Facilities and Maintenance Committee, in conjunction with the Finance Committee is launching a Restricted Repair and Replacement Fund. Our facilities have been in service for nearly 60 years and a major structural problem or equipment failure could prove to be catastrophic to our operating budget. We are establishing a restricted fund, a fund that cannot be used for regular operating expenses, that is deposited with the diocese to earn interest until the funds are needed, and provides the emergency funds needed to cover large repairs and replacement of obsolete equipment. Just last week there was another issue with the boiler, a piece of equipment that is near the end of its life expectancy.

An envelope for contributions to this fund will be added to parishioner's envelope packets and a category will be created for online donations. Watch the bulletin for more information about this fund and how it will be managed to serve the needs of our parish family.

If you can, please be generous in supporting this fund.
