As Summer Approaches

As summer approaches, Our Lady Queen of Peace is facing a lot of changes.  The biggest, of course, is the school closing.  After sixty years of providing quality Catholic Education to the children of our parish, declining enrollment has, unfortunately, made it impossible to keep the school going.  For most of us this causes sadness.  It's hard to imagine Our Lady Queen of Peace without the energy and enthusiasm of our school children throughout the school year.  Yet it is the school children themselves who speak of hope.  They've been wearing T-shirts that say, "Don't cry because it's over.  Smile because it happened."

Fr. Jim recently announced that, after his 40th anniversary of Ordination, he would be leaving us.  For a lot of parishioners, this was sad news too, but, as he wrote in his announcement, he is very grateful for all that has happened, all that he shared with us over the last ten years.

As summer approaches, we have an opportunity not just to smile because of what has happened, but to imagine what we can now be.  In what new ways can we serve the needs of our young people?  In what new ways can we celebrate our identify and history?  How can we build on what has been to live into being a more lively parish, a more lively expression of faith and hope and love to our community and our world?

Our Mission states:

With the Spirit at our side, and mindful of the Blessed Mother, we follow God's will and the teachings of Jesus Christ, especially through Sunday Worship and the care of parishioners for one another and by connecting life and faith on a regular basis.

We can smile at all that has happened, dream of what we can be, and work to make that dream a reality.
